| Physical Description | Iliana has much more in common physically with her mother than her father. In fact were it not for the ridges on her forehead Iliana could amost be her mother's twin. Certainly if her father could see her now he would be blown away by the resemblance. Iliana and Antonia have the same dark blonde hair, cute face and green eyes. She is a little slight of build, fit but not muscular and is considered really rather pretty by those who are free enough from bigotry to get past the Cardassian elements in her heritage. When not in uniform she tends much more towards human fashion than Cardassian, liking simple tops and leggings with cute ballet pumps or boots. |

Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Iliana is generally a jovial and upbeat sort of person, with a strong undercurrent of gentility and kindness. Recently her pervasive positivity has taken a bit of a hit and her new-found enthusiasm brought about by being in the Federation has been dulled by her unsuccessful marriage. But she always approaches things with a can-do attitude. She's not particularly forceful in personality but won't be steamrolled. She rarely speaks loudly or raises her voice, but she also doesn't cut-loose too much, preferring to stay in control for the moment. Fundamentally Iliana is kind, fair and understanding, traits entirely unsuitable for success in the Crdassian Union. She is graceful and demure and is rarely crass or vulgar. Iliana can be very defensive about Cardassians, especially when people point out her heritage and even more especially if they do so with negative intent. She is in the odd position of agreeing with most people having lived in the Cardassian Union and hating it when she did, but also being loyal to her father who was a good and kind man and who's heritage she is part of. Iliana particularly hates being called a Cardassian without reference to her human mother who, in her mind gets removed from the equation, people only seeing the ridges on Iliana's face and not her blonde hair, blue eyes and pink skin. This is especially irksome as she looks much more human in man ways than Cardassian. |

| Hobbies & Interests | Iliana loves to trawl Earth music archives and find songs she loves to play and sing on her guitar. She'll often steal away to a remote area of the relay and practice. Iliana loves to cook as it reminds her of her mother. She is a good chef and a good baker. Her speciality dish is pasta with a bean and bacon cream sauce and her signature bake is a vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream and summer berries. |
| Personal History | In the aftermath of the Dominion war another smaller war of politics and identity raged within the borders of the Cardassian Union. Colonies formerly within the Federation that had been ceded to the Cardassians in the late 2360s and early 2370s were a mix of races, ideals and philosophies, many of which didn't co-exist entirely smoothly. Iliana Tomar was born into this difficult existence on the colony of Volan II not too long after the main Dominion War officially ended. Her mother was a Human colonist and Maquis sympathiser, her father a Cardassian who had initially been sent to smooth things out but quickly turned to the colonists' side and aided them in avoiding too much Cardassian oversight for many years. When Iliana was eight however this ended. A force of the Cardassian Military moved in on the colony and exterminated all non-Cardassians present, including Iliana's mother. Her father was arrested and brought back to Cardassia Prime where he was imprisoned indefinitely. Iliana struggled as an Orphan and a half-Cardassian who appeared more human than Cardassian. Forced into effective slavery and manual labour she was treated poorly and as second class with few if any rights. Fortunately for Iliana she was clever and bright and managed to gain the sympathy of the overseer of her work camp. She became invaluable at getting into small places and was instructed on fixing machinery which she always achieved with expediency and success. Off the back of this Iliana was allowed a little more leniency than most. She took the first opportunity she had to go on a trip away from Cardassia Prime and used her engineering expertise to steal a shuttle, disable the main ship and cross the border into Federation space. Upon being captured by a Federation Starship on patrol along the border Iliana requested asylum and after hearing of the conditions half-breeds were often subject to in the Union this was quickly granted. Iliana wasn't always treated the best while on Earth. Despite sharing more in common with her human mother physically than her Cardassian father, her Cardassian heritage waas on display for all to see. Falling back on what she knew, Iliana started to receive proper schooling excelling in Engineering and sciences. At age 20 she applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted, passing out in 2401. While at the Academy she met and married a human man, Arthur Merrick who was charming and cordial and treated her like a princess. This wasn't to last however. Iliana soon found out that behind closed doors Arthur was quite disturbed and started to become first verbally and mentally and in the end physically abusive. Iliana did manage to estricate herself eventually but only after quite some time of making complaints that fell on deaf ears, their superiors not believing her assertions over their own opinion of Arthur which was of someone effective, charming and kind. As a form of apology Iliana was promoted away from her first ship and given her choice of a few assignments. She chose monitoring a Subspace Relay and implementing an increased presence at the relay and the surrounding area of space as tensions were rising in the vicinity. |
